BIOGRAPHY AND EXHIBITIONS.
Biography
I graduated in fine art painting from Northbrook college in 2007. I then moved to London where I continued making work. Then from 2016 to 2019 I lived in Barcelona. Since 2019 I have been back in London; all the while having many stints in Corrèze, France. All these environments have strongly influenced my productivity. I was amazed at the extent to which moving to London and then Barcelona changed my body of work. I think travel and placing oneself in new unchartered territories is very important for creativity.
In most of the work I produce, I enjoy using a few mediums simultaneously such as oil, acrylic, graphite, pastels and gouache, I find that if layered correctly, I can produce unusual motifs and textures. I also enjoy painting on different grounds such as Steel, granite, paper and wood. I sometimes like the surface on which I paint to be apparent in the finished article, especially with steel and granite.
Quite a lot of my work has been drawn from photographs, either personal or found, I then intersperse that with memories, emotions and techniques I have accumulated over time. I have recently rekindled my love of life drawing. For me, life drawing and portrait painting possess a unique quality in that it can make way for an instinctive and candid outcome. I generally don't make work with a fixed narrative and aesthetic language in sight, process and the possibilities of unforeseen results are what keep me excited about continuing to make new work.
